Currently, 14 casinos in Ontario have been shut down due to a system outage that was first noticed early Sunday afternoon.
Gateway Casinos says the impacted casinos, including Georgian Downs, Casino Rama, and Playtime Casino Wasaga Beach, are closed until further notice.
Several people arriving to gamble were turned away.
"I'm disappointed because I thought I would take my friends out for a day, and here we are, driving all this way," said Keswick resident Audrey Trantau.
There is no word on what is causing the issue. Authorities have not confirmed a hacking situation.
The impact of the casino closures is yet to be assessed, with no revenue dollar figure available.
According to Dmitrijs Rogalcuks, Head of Content at CasinoCanada, "No one in the gambling industry wants to see a situation where casinos close down. Besides the fact that such situations would lead to massive revenue losses, they also have a significant impact on the trust in the online gambling industry. Ontario has been one of the best provinces for iGaming in Canada for many years and intends to maintain that status. Although the affected casinos will be closed until further notice, players can continue engaging in physical and online gaming activities without fear. All casinos continue to offer bonuses, such as the no deposit bonus, free spins, welcome bonuses, and more. Players will also have access to all the features needed for a seamless gaming experience."
