Midland’s Adam Dixon had two goals and Gravenhurst’s Graeme Murray scored one as Canada beat Sweden 10-1 in the first game at the Winter Paralympics in Sochi on Saturday.
The win moves Canada into first place in Group A and they will play their second game Sunday morning when they take on Norway. Norway beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in overtime on Saturday.
Canada was able to claim three medals in the first day of competition.B-C's Josh Dueck won silver in the men's sit-ski downhill while 16-year-old Mac Marcoux of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and his guide claimed bronze in the men's visually impaired downhill. And Prince Edward Island's Mark Arendz claimed a silver in biathlon.
The 11th Winter Paralympics features 547 athletes from 45 countries. It's the first time the event has been held in Russia and comes less than two weeks since the close of the Winter Olympics in Sochi. The Paralympics run until March 16th.
