People casting votes in Springwater Township were also asked to fill out a second ballot so that University of Toronto research students could analyse the voting process in rural communities.
"They have the option of internet voting, but people still turn up for the traditional voting system,” says a University of Toronto Research Analyst "so we want to know why."
Some voters in Barrie said they voted to keep things the way they currently are.
Polling stations in Orillia had long lines of people waiting to exercise their right to vote for changes in their community.
Polls will close across the province at 8 p.m. Monday night.
