It’s a sign of the impending end of the ice fishing season, as the final day for ice huts to be on some the areas lakes arrives.

Ice fishing enthusiasts are reminded to remove all huts off of many of the region’s waterways, including Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay, by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Fisheries says anglers who don’t remove their huts by the deadline could face a maximum fine of $200.

Officials say the removal of huts and accompanying debris helps to insure garbage and other materials don’t end up in the water when the ice melts.

The deadline for some lakes in the Muskoka area is March 31.

If you have a hut and are unsure if your hut needs to come off the ice, you can visit the MNR website for more information.
