Bruce Frank was devastated after learning Huntsville’s Royal Canadian Legion branch was hit by flooding.
The president of the legion branch says the building was badly damaged by Monday’s torrential rain. He says the branch doesn’t have the money to cover the extensive cleanup and repairs.
“It's like my home and I just don't know,” says Frank. “We just need help. We were just flooded up to the bar. Our complete dance floor, everything is ruined now.”
Drywall and all the carpet needs to go – the hardwood floors are also buckling.
“I just pull my belt on a little tighter, take my uniform off and suck the water off the floor,” says Tony Evans. “Anything I can do for this building and my legion, I will.”
The legion remains closed as damage estimates to the outside of the building are tallied up. Extensive excavation needs to be done to repair weeping tile and foundation issues. The damage could total $60,000.
To complicate things, the busiest time of year – the poppy campaign – is about to begin.
“We've been here for 85 years and we've helped the town, we've helped the community. We're looking for some help.”
