Huntsville can expect another 15 cm of snow accumulation

Cold, wintery weather has landed in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays in Muskoka.

Environment Canada is calling for up to 15 centimetres of snow, heavy at times, and more snow is in the forecast.

“Some areas of Huntsville, such as the downtown, have not received as much snow,” said Beth Green, Huntsville’s communications spokesperson from her home in Utterson. “But we’ve received, and so has Lake of Bays Township, more than 60 centimetres so far today,” she said at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

In its mid-day press release, the Town of Huntsville stated crews would focus is clearing snow on primary roads in urban high traffic areas, followed by secondary routes in rural areas.

“Please be advised that crews are out and remember to please keep sidewalks and roads clear of parked cars to give our plows and equipment room to operate," the Town noted.

At this time, Town Hall will remain open with regular business hours.

The Huntsville High School’s Winter Concert that was scheduled for today has been rescheduled for Wed., Dec. 11.

The Huntsville Public Library remains open.

Police are urging the public to avoid non-essential travel during this time.

Motorists should have an emergency kit in their vehicles, ensure sufficient fuel/battery levels, and plan ahead.

Motorists who find themselves stranded are encouraged to remain calm, stay in their vehicle and consider pooling vehicle resources until the OPP and other rescuers are able to reach their location.
