The trial of a Markdale woman accused of failing to care for a number of horses on her farm last year has wrapped up for now.
Lynda Smith was back in Owen Sound court today for the fifth day of a case where she is accused of neglecting horses on her farm. Smith, who is representing herself, questioned her former employee and close friend Leslie Curran.
Curran testified most of the horses were in good condition during the 18 months that she worked at the facility with the exception of two older horses. She told the court she called the OSPCA to report concerns after she saw pictures of some horses online that looked thin and in poor condition.
Curran testified she believes Smith loved her animals and did the best she could but was unable to care for them properly. At one point Curran even became emotional on the stand while speaking about the condition of the horses she once cared for.
The court also heard from a former employee who told the court she saw Smith care for and love all of her animals.
Court also heard testimony from OSPCA agents and veterinarians.
The trial will now resume July 23.
