Homicide investigation into woman's remains found near Newmarket trail halted

Share

The circumstances surrounding human remains found late last week near a popular walking trail in Newmarket have been deemed not suspicious.

Despite initially launching a homicide investigation following the discovery, the York Regional Police Homicide Unit says an autopsy on the woman's body determined her cause of death is not suspect.

Police say she has been identified, and her next of kin was notified.

The woman's body was found in a forested area behind a medical building's parking lot at the northwest corner of Davis Drive and Bayview Parkway on Thursday, just east of the Tannery Mall and the Tom Taylor Trail.

Police did not provide details of how the woman died or her identity.
