A home was destroyed and several pets are presumed to have died after a house fire broke out in Wasaga Beach Friday evening.
The fire broke out around 8 p.m. and quickly engulfed the home. Fire crews were able to get it under control within an hour, but the two storey house is a complete loss. Two pets, a cat and a dog, are unaccounted for. They are presumed to have died in the fire.
Saturday investigators with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office were back at the scene looking for answers. They say the recent snowfall and bitter cold added many challenged for crews battling the fire, and made it difficult for Saturday’s investigation.
“A lot of the windows and stuff have been compromised by the fire,” said Mike Ross, one of the investigators.
“We have had a significant temperature drop [Friday] night. I mean the fire came in just after 8 so obviously it's been exposed to the cold weather since 8 o’clock last night....water does freeze.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown. The two women living in the home were not injured in the fire.
