Two people have died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 69 north of Parry Sound.

The crash happened on Saturday at around 2 p.m. on the highway, about three kilometres south of Pointe au Baril, in Shawanaga Township.

OPP say a northbound pickup truck attempted to pass two camper trucks, which caused a southbound SUV to strike one of the campers head-on.

Both occupants in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the pickup truck and two people inside the camper were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Provincial police remained on scene until about 1 a.m. on Sunday, while they investigated. During that time, Highway 69 between Highway 522 and Highway 124 was closed.

The investigation is ongoing.
