Here are the top 5 questions Barrie residents have this fall
As the leaves change colour and the summer warmth fades away, residents in Barrie have a lot on their minds.
Here are the top five questions fielded by Service Barrie in October:
With summer over, do I still need a waterfront parking permit?
The short answer is yes. Waterfront parking is enforced all year round. Residents with waterfront parking permits issued between 2022 and 2026 don't expire until Dec. 21, 2026.
Waterfront parking permits can be obtained through the HotSpot app, online. or in person at City Hall.
When is yard waste collected in October?
Yard waste collection continues every other week on the opposite weeks of garbage collection. Materials should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on regular collection days and will be collected sometime before the end of the day on Friday.
Weekly yard waste collection only happens in January to accommodate Christmas tree disposal. There is no yard waste collection in February, March or December.
Why did I receive a tax arrears notice?
Accounts with an overdue balance will receive an automatic tax arrears. Tax arrears could be in connection with property taxes, overdue water or wastewater bills, a new account fee for ownership changes, or unpaid fees for duplicate tax bills or receipts.
For any concerns or questions regarding tax arrears, contact Service Barrie at 705-726-4242 or via email.
What's going on at Heritage Park?
Work to help reduce flooding downtown is underway, with the installation of a trunk storm sewer from Memorial Square to the Bayfield Basin through Heritage Park.
Simcoe Street will undergo a one-way configuration in early November for watermain work, restricting eastbound traffic from Bayfield to Mulcaster, with weekends open until March.
The entire project is expected to be completed in June.
How should I provide feedback on my transit experience?
The best way to submit feedback about Barrie Transit is online, which will reach the contractor directly and immediately.
"The City's transit staff monitors all feedback submitted," the City noted.
For any specific questions, residents are encouraged to reach out to Service Barrie through phone, email, or online.
