No injuries are reported, following a stubborn house fire in Tiny Township.
Firefighters were called to the three-storey house on Champlain Road, north of Toanche on Tuesday, at around 9 a.m.
“There was a great deal of smoke emitting from the eavestrough and the bricks,” says Tiny Township fire chief Tony Mintoff. “That tells us that the fire had been going for some time.”
There was nobody inside the house at the time of the fire. Officials say the fire proved elusive and continued to burn behind walls.
“Some of the floors are burnt through so it makes it very tenuous for our people to do a complete and rapid search.”
Heavy equipment was brought in to put out stubborn flames.
“The only option we had to stop it was to bring the excavator in and pull the wall down from the outside.”
Mintoff says they had to destroy part of the home to save the rest.
A cause and damage estimate has not yet been released.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in and will take over the investigation.
