Georgian Bay General Hospital gets big gift from North Simcoe's Guys Who Care
The Guys Who Care showed up with proof.
With a big cheque in hand, the Guys Who Care group arrived with hearts on their sleeves and grins on their faces.
At their recent meeting on Monday, the North Simcoe service club presented Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation with a collection of $46,000 for the hospital's MRI fund.
"We wanted to do something special for GBGH to give the MRI campaign a boost and still be able to support another deserving charity in October," said Mike Thor, a member of Guys Who Care.
Thor said he and another member, James Layter, challenged the 'Guys' by offering a joint matching gift of $10,000 each, to a maximum of $20,000, for all donations received before the Oct. 23 meeting.

With 10 days to go, 43 members of the Guys Who Care showed up with $26,000.
Matthew Lawson, president and CEO of GBGH, said foundation staff have been surprised by the community's generosity.
"Given the importance of bringing an MRI to GBGH, we are thrilled to receive this gift from Guys Who Care in North Simcoe," Lawson said as a guest at the meeting on Monday.
"We have been overwhelmed with support from this community. The fundraising has been going faster than anticipated, which has allowed us to continue to move at a rapid pace in getting the expansion built so we can get MRI up and running as soon as possible."
