Police in New Tecumseth charged a G2 driver with stunt driving for allegedly speeding nearly 50 kilometres per hour over the posted limit.

Provincial police say an officer conducted a traffic stop after clocking the vehicle travelling along Industrial Parkway at 107 km/h. The area is a posted 60 zone.

Police called the speed “dangerous behaviour,” adding it's “not worth the risk!”

A stunt driving charge carries six demerit points and a minimum $2,000 fine if convicted, plus considerable insurance rate hikes.

Along with the charge, the G2 driver was also handed an automatic 30-day licence suspension, and 14-day vehicle impoundment for the offence.

In Ontario, a stunt driving charge is handed to motorists caught driving 40 km/h or more above the speed limit where the posted limit is less than 80 km/h.

Additionally, speeding 50km/h or more where the posted limit is 80 km/h or higher will also result in an automatic stunt driving charge.

“Speed limits are in place to protect everyone on the road. Drive responsibility,” provincial police stated.
