First babies of 2025 born across the region
Barrie’s first tiny bundle of joy in 2025 has arrived on planet earth.
Scottie Grace Lorraine Steele made her debut at 1:17 a.m. on Wednesday, weighing five pounds at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH). Barrie residents, and first-time parents Jenelle Lyman and Quinn Steele, were thrilled with Scottie’s safe arrival.
Jenelle said she was hoping for a New Year’s baby. “I tried really hard. I didn’t want a December 31 baby,” she said.

More than 2,000 babies are born each year at RVH each year.
Both parents were appreciative of the care they received from the staff in RVH’s birthing unit.
“Honestly, they were the best,” said Jenelle. “They were funny, it was light. Everyone was so helpful. We didn’t have to ask for anything, everything was just done for us.”
However, Scottie wasn’t the first baby born in region in 2025.
Southlake Health Centre introduced Jamie-Lynne, the first baby born in York Region in 2025.
Jamie-Lynne made her entrance at 12:55 a.m. weighing seven pounds and seven ounces.
Parents Sarah and Stephen will be taking their bundle of joy home to Georgina.
