Fire destroyed a home in Midland Saturday night.

Crews went to the home on Sixth Street at Victoria Street at about 5:30 p.m. Feb. 15 and saw flames on the first floor and smoke pouring from the second storey.

Firefighters rushed into the home to attack the fire from the inside and look for anyone who might still be home. Nobody was home at the time. Inside, firefighters saw flames reaching to the second floor. Because of safety concerns they pulled out and went defensive.

They spent several hours working on containing the fire from the outside and got it under control early this morning.

Fire Chief Kevin Foster praised his crew in a news release for their hard work.

“It was an incredibly long and challenging fire for the firefighters on a cold night,” he said. “They deserve great praise for their hard work and tenacity throughout what was a very stubborn fire.”

Damage is estimated at $250,000.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause.
