An early morning fire at the Lake Simcoe Motel in Barrie has been deemed arson.

Barrie Fire crews were called to the abandoned Blake Street Motel just after 3am after a small part of the building caught fire.

The Deputy Chief Jeff Webber says the fire was controlled within minutes and fully extinguished quickly.

Because the motel had been abandoned for many years, the fire was deemed suspicious. Barrie Fire Services later found several ignition points on the building. The fire has now been deemed arson.

Barrie Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025 ext.2129, or to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.tipsubmit.ca
