Dufferin County has issued a state of emergency due to the weather and poor road conditions.

Dufferin County Warden and Melancthon Township Mayor Bill Hill made the declaration at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29th, 2014.

County of Dufferin spokesperson Pam Hillock tells CTV News they’ve declared the state of emergency to allow them to bring in help from other municipalities to clear roads and cope with the whiteouts.

County of Dufferin crews are exhausted and have been working around the clock – they are completely at the end of their work limits for now.

Dufferin County Warden Bill Hill says in a release that local resources have been exhausted and mutual assistance agreements need to be implemented to manage this situation.

All buses in Dufferin County were cancelled for the end of the day, but schools remained open to allow parents to pick-up their children. Hillock tell CTV News that as of 6:45 p.m. - all students had been picked up from all schools.

Environment Canada says a blustery and very cold weather pattern is expected to produce localized blowing and drifting snow and associated poor visibilities throughout the day.

They are asking everyone in Dufferin County to stay off the roads because the conditions are unpredictable.
