One man has been charged following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 400 that caused traffic backups for hours on Thursday.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., two or three vehicles were involved in a collision south of Highway 88 in Bradford.

The crash left one of the vehicles in the live lane without lights on, said OPP Const. Theodore Dongelmans.

“This resulted in a domino effect leading to additional cars colliding with the original vehicles,” he said.

Eight vehicles collided and the highway was closed for several hours causing significant traffic delays.

One person was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Dongelmans said a 36-year-old Scarborough man was charged with dangerous operation and impaired driving, among other Highway Traffic Act offences.
