A Barrie man was out jogging when he says he was bitten by a large dog Thursday.

The man says he was on the sidewalk of Cox Mill Road and Hurst Street in Barrie at 5:15 p.m., and without proof of the dog’s vaccination, he will have to undergo painful rabies treatment.

“I veered to go well around the man on the lawn, but the dog lunged and bit my wrist,” he said. “I did not realize that I was cut at the time, but went to the clinic, and now will need to get the rabies treatment unless the owner is located and we can get proof of vaccination.”

He said the dog was a mid-sized German Shepherd capable of pulling the human who was holding the leash.

The owner is described as a slim man, five feet eight inches tall, with long black hair, a moustache, and dark complexion.

The dog's owner is asked to call Simcoe Animal Control with proof of the dog’s vaccination at 705-726-4242, ext. 0 as soon as possible.
