A dispute over the location of Barrie's new south-end high school isn't over yet, as Barrie city council deferred a key vote on the matter.
Council made the decision on Monday night, one week after councillors rejected Simcoe County District School Board’s proposed location of a new school.
Council was set to ratify last week’s decision, but deferred it until Oct. 5.
School board trustees and director of education reached out to the city and asked for more time to look at the plan, go over concerns for the location, and come up with solutions.
"So the request to us, put our decision off to allow them to prepare that plan and discuss it. We're going to give it another two weeks in the hope that a solution can be found," says Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman.
The city wants the school built near the Mapleview Drive and Prince William Way intersection in the south end, while the board wants it built farther back near a future subdivision.
The mayor said the city will be flexible on things like driveways and drop-off locations, as the board has said safety is the issue with the location.
The board was hoping for city approval this fall so it could open the school in 2018.
