The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reopened Couchiching Beach in Orillia after it was closed due to higher than normal bacteria count.

Couchiching Beach, located at Couchiching Beach Park, and Moose Beach, located at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park, were both posted on Wednesday afternoon.

Health officials opened Couchiching Beach on Friday but Moose Beach remains posted.

Beaches are posted when bacteria levels exceed those considered acceptable by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Swimming at posted beaches can increase a swimmers risk of developing irritations and infections.

Portage Bay, located at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park, is also open for swimming.
