One day after Canada Post issued a red delivery alert, suspending mail service to several areas across Simcoe County due to inclement weather, it has been lifted.

Despite the red alert, many Canada Post workers in Barrie kept on going, ensuring residents received their mail.

“We ask our delivery team members to never put their safety at risk when delivering mail. In this situation, in the City of Barrie, conditions were not as severe as in the surrounding regions and employees did deliver only where it was safe. They were directed to bring back any mail undelivered because of safety concerns,” said Phil Legault with media relations at Canada Post.

As of Friday morning, Canada Post lifted the red delivery service alert for Barrie and surrounding regions, leaving it in place for Elmvale, Orillia, Oro-Medonte and Phelpston.

“While we have lifted the red alert of Barrie this morning, we have indicated to employees delivering in the surrounding areas to deliver only where it is safe to do so,” Legault said.
