Driver charged after SUV is struck by loose wheel on Hwy 400

Three people were taken to the hospital after a wheel crashed into the front of an SUV on Highway 400 Friday afternoon.

Provincial police say the wheel came off a van travelling southbound, south of Mapleview Drive in Barrie near McKay Road.

The wheel struck the northbound SUV, shattering the windshield and caving in the roof.

Police charged the van's driver, a 47-year-old man from Cambridge, with driving a vehicle with a part detached under the Highway Traffic Act.
