The City of Barrie says the province’s plan to install more concrete barriers along Highway 400 doesn’t go far enough.
Barrie councillors want to see concrete barriers installed along Highway 400 all the way through Barrie. The province’s current plan is to have them installed from Canal Road in Bradford to Innisfil Beach Road.
During a committee meeting Monday night, council voted unanimously to ask the Ministry of Transportation to build the barriers through Barrie. Council is also planning to ask some communities along the 400, like Innisfil and Essa Township, to come together and also ask the ministry to speed up the process.
“We've seen again, this is has been a very tough winter and we've seen some tragedies this winter,” Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman said Monday evening. “It is my hope that measures can be expedited to make life a little safer for the folks coming to and from the city every day, especially during that tough winter weather.”
The motion still has to be approved during a regular council meeting before the letter is written and sent to the ministry. It should be approved next Monday.
