Children's choir sings alongside Gordon Lightfoot recordings

A special Sunday Service was held at St. Paul’s United Church in Orillia Sunday morning to commemorate Gordon Lightfoot and the venue where he began his illustrious career.

The service was part of the weekend’s Lightfoot Days festival. It featured a live performance by the Orillia Community Children’s Choir blended in with a historic recording of a 12-year-old Lightfoot singing in the St. Paul’s choir.

“The quality of the choir is amazing, you almost think it’s Gord as a 12-year-old again singing in the room,” said Blair Bailey, a congregant and longtime choir director. “[Lightfoot] left such a wonderful legacy. He’s so highly respected, and he really has put Orillia not only on the Canada-wide map but the world map.”

The Lightfoot Days Festival concluded with a wrap up party and closing ceremony in Downtown Orillia Sunday afternoon.
