Five cases of C. difficile in one month have led Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston to declare an outbreak of the illness.

The bacteria can pose a threat to elderly patients, or patients whose health is already compromised. The hospital has put safety measures in place during the outbreak, which will include enforcement of frequent and thorough hand washing.

In some cases, visitors will be required to wear protective gear like gowns and gloves.

Some visitor restrictions have also been put in place.
