Barrie residents invited to weigh in on future of the waterfront

Residents of Barrie are asked to weigh in on the future of the waterfront during a public meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the General John Hayter Southshore Centre.

The waterfront proposal has stirred mixed reactions from the start.

While some see it as an opportunity to add more recreational space for sports teams and offer a parade space for the Sea Cadets, others are worried about the environmental impact and potential changes to Barrie's waterfront.

The City launched a survey for residents to provide feedback on the project, which closes on Wednesday.

It also tasked long-time lawyer and community leader Marshall Green to investigate the recently approved multi-purpose field. Green devised a report outlining seven recommendations for revitalizing the waterfront and downtown core.

Residents are encouraged to share their take on Green's suggestions.

Feedback gathered from Tuesday's public meeting will be presented to city council on Oct. 9.
