Barrie Police Const. Jason Nevill will remain behind bars for now.

A judge has dismissed his application for bail pending appeal on two grounds: there is not enough merit for the application and bail is not in the public’s interest.

Nevill’s lawyer says he is still moving forward on an appeal of the verdict.

The Barrie Police officer was sentenced to one year in jail for the brutal assault of Jason Stern outside a Barrie mall in November 2010, which was caught on a surveillance camera. Nevill was convicted on charges of assault, falsifying evidence and obstructing justice.

Nevill is also facing a $1 million civil suit filed by his victim, Jason Stern.
