A grandfather and his four grandchildren had to be rescued by the Barrie Police Marine Unit after the engine of their boat stopped working on Kempenfelt Bay.

Police say it happened shortly after 2:00 p.m. when concerned citizens saw the people inside the boat waving paddles and called polices.

The Marine Unit responded to the 16 foot power boat that was approximately one kilometer from the City Marina.

Officers made sure everybody was okay and towed the boat to shore.
