Bail granted to man arrested in sexual assault investigation involving minors

Share

A Severn Township man accused in a sexual assault investigation was granted bail on Monday.

Police arrested Ty Arends, 21, following allegations he said he was 17 years old while at a party in June with a group of younger females. The allegations claim the accused provided alcohol and had sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl.

Police say additional complainants came forward with accusations since the investigation launched last month. "Police believe there could be more victims," the OPP stated.

Arends is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, three counts of sexual interference, and three counts of sexual assault on a person under 16.

He was held in custody following his arrest and, on Monday morning, was released to a surety.

A publication ban prevents any information about the proceedings, including the complainants' identities, from being released.

The allegations against the accused have not been tested in court.
