B.C. woman granted bail following charges in Simcoe County drug trafficking case

A woman from British Columbia, who was one of five people facing several drug trafficking charges, has been granted bail in Barrie.

Mia Sanchez, 21, was released Thursday morning on $5,000 bail to her parents, who will serve as sureties.

Sanchez had been in custody at Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene for over a week following her arrest.

Ontario Provincial Police charged her with being in possession of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. She was also accused of being in possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The Crown withdrew several counts of possession of schedule one substances for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The allegations against Sanchez have not been tested in court.

Provincial police said at the time of the arrests investigators were following a group of drug traffickers in Simcoe County with help from the Organized Crime Enforcement Branch, RCMP and Vancouver Police Department to determine the identity of the suspected traffickers.

Police alleged a loaded gun, fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, $12,000 in cash along with prohibited knives, a stolen police bulletproof vest, seven cell phones and Nazi/ Swastika paraphernalia were recovered.

According to police, the co-accused were in custody pending bail hearings.
