A car chase in Windsor led to the arrest of the man police say robbed a bank in Stroud Friday afternoon.

At about 3:45 p.m., a man walked into the People’s Credit Union bank along Yonge Street holding what appeared to be a handgun, police say. He made off on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Nobody was injured. Police say they called in the canine unit, but didn’t find the man.

However, investigators were able to identify him a short time later and tracked him down to the Windsor area at about 10 p.m. Police in the Windsor area were called and arrested the man after a car chase. Officers there say they found a handgun and cash in the vehicle.

Police have charged a 54-year-old Barrie man with robbery, assault with a weapon, and weapons dangerous. He is being held in custody for a bail hearing Monday.
