This is a day Jeff Gants has been waiting his whole life for.
Gants is from England and has always wanted to see the fall colours near Algonquin Park in person.
“The oranges, the yellows, the reds, the deep reds in the maples is quite spectacular and to see the deep red on a yellow tree that's quite unusual to see.”
The colours in Algonquin Park have just this week hit 100 per cent – the peak is about two weeks behind schedule and people who make the trip every year have noticed the difference from previous years.
“They are not as good as normal. They are starting or finished; one or the other,” says Ron Roberts.
Despite that, Roberts has been using his iPad all day.
“Driving all the way up from Keswick and seeing this few colours is a little disappointing. But no we are having a good time.”
About three million people visit Muskoka every year and 25 per cent come in the fall. Two out of every three stay for at least a night and they spend about $150.
For the people heading up in the next few days, the colour change in Gravenhurst is still at about 40 per cent to 50 per cent right now. Most of Muskoka are in the 60 to 80 per cent range.
