Wind alert issued for Simcoe County with gusts up to 80km/h

Strong winds are in the forecast for Monday across parts of Simcoe County.

Environment Canada issued a weather alert for Barrie, Collingwood and surrounding areas, warning residents about the wicked winds that are expected to pick up to 80 kilometres per hour in the afternoon hours.
“Stong northwest winds gusting to 80 km/h are expected as a cold front blasts through the region,” the national weather agency noted. “Gusts will be more frequent near the shorelines of Huron and Georgian Bay.”
The winds could cause power outages, toss loss objects and break branches from trees.
The weather warning is expected to end this evening.
