It might be a bit chilly to lie on the beach or swim in Georgian Bay but the Town of Wasaga Beach is working make sure there is enough to do along the main beach strip this May long weekend.

Businesses are optimistic about the long weekend and the season ahead because seven of the key commercial properties along the Beach Area One have been purchased by the town.

The real estate deal closed on Thursday and town officials confirm that two bars on the waterfront "will" be open for the long weekend and that gives the other business something to build on.

Gil Mechaly operates three different retail locations here, he expects some of the others retail spaces that have been vacant for several years to be snapped up as the beach comes back to life.

“There will be a full operational strip with bars and stores and it's great we are happy,” says Mechaly.

The Electric Elements Music Festival is expected to attract between 8,000 and 10,000 people to the main beach area on Sunday. Hogan Courrier says the event is the icing on the cake and bookings for cottages are way up.

“Way busier than last year we had no bookings in May last year and we are fully booked for this weekend and I have weekly bookings coming in after the Electric Elements Music Festival as well, we didn't have that last May we are heading for a record May for sure,” says Courrier

The staging for the outdoor festival will be arriving on Saturday, the music starts on Sunday at 12 p.m.
