Try out a Barrie fitness centre for free
Feeling the heat in January is a difficult task in Barrie.
City staff know this is the time of year residents promised to get fit, eat healthier and stay warm, but these resolutions are easily ignored when it’s -10C.
But when it’s free and there’s swag, it might be worth the trip to the gym.

To that end, Barrie is offering residents 18 and over, three options to try a fitness class, meet fitness staff, tour the fitness centres, and try fitness equipment this week.
- Monday, 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Peggy Hill Team Community Centre
- Tuesday, 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Allandale Recreation Centre
- Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at East Bayfield Community Centre
“This is a great opportunity for residents to see what the city has to offer to keep fit, have fun, and be part of our fitness community,” said Kevin Datema, director of recreation and culture services.
“Join us for a free visit and take advantage of the chance to check out our excellent facilities and meet our friendly, helpful staff,” Datema said.
Refreshments will be available at these sessions. Any new member who purchases a recPASS membership during a free session will receive a city of Barrie gym bag, while supplies last.
