The City of Barrie expects a section of Duckworth Street to reopen next week.

The road will open from Grove Street to Wellington Street/Steel on Monday.

“Work on Duckworth Street at Wellington/Steel is nearing completion, with final topsoil and sod restoration remaining,” the City noted.

Crews have finished surface course paving along Duckworth from Bell Farm Road to Howard Crescent.

However, motorists will have to contend with an intersection closure to all through traffic from Oct. 21 to 23 for pavement reconstruction, curb and sidewalk replacements at Grove and Cook streets.

The project was broken into three phases because of Duckworth Street's poor pavement condition.

The Duckworth Street improvement project includes new sidewalks, paving, intersection upgrades, and road widening for bicycle lanes.

The multi-million-dollar project is anticipated to be completed in the spring.
