Search continues for suspect in gas station shooting after victim dies
Police have yet to make an arrest following a fatal shooting at a gas station in Amaranth Township last week that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.
Provincial police responded to a report about an armed robbery and shooting at a gas station on County Road 109 on Oct. 7 around 11:40 p.m.
They released images of an armed suspect wearing a blue surgical mask, a three-quarter-length dark coat with a fur-lined hood, black pants, shoes, and gloves.Police warn the public to call 911 if they know the whereabouts of person shown in photo. Wed., Oct. 9, 2024. (Supplied)
It's unclear why the weapon was discharged, but according to a GoFundMe campaign launched by Rupanjot Kaur, his cousin Mehakdeep Singh suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
He died days later, on Oct. 10, in the hospital.
The fundraiser notes that Singh's mother worked hard to send him to Canada for a better life and to help support his family.
"Mehakdeep and his sisters were raised by his mother single-handedly," Kaur writes. "His sudden and tragic passing has left his family not only in emotional turmoil but also facing significant financial burdens, leading to other unforeseen costs during this difficult time."

Singh is remembered as a beloved son, friend, and community member known for his kindness, hard work and positive spirit.
Police urge anyone with information to contact the OPP but warn not to engage or approach the suspect. "Call 911 immediately."
They ask those in the area to check, save and secure potential video evidence from home or business security cameras between 11:15 p.m. and midnight on Oct. 7.
