Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with an assault in Oro-Medonte on Thursday morning.

OPP investigators along with the forensic identification unit and the canine unit were called to a house on a waterfront street after a man was assaulted shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

The tactical unit and rescue unit were also a part of the investigation. Police say the man who lives at the home was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital. Police will only say his injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are searching for a white man in his early 20s. He is about 5’8” with grey stubble and a narrow face. He was wearing a greyish blue toque and mid-length blue jacket.

People who live in the exclusive neighbourhood did not want to talk and the OPP aren’t being very specific about whether people who live in the area should be worried.

“Public vigilance is very, very important – especially when we have an occurrence like this taking place. We remind the public to ensure their doors are locked and lighting is there so if there is someone skulking about the lighting will illuminate them and they won’t be lost in the shadow,” says OPP Sgt. Peter Leon.

Police cruisers were seen looking for the suspect from the east end of Barrie well past Shanty Bay in Oro-Medonte.

By mid-afternoon on Thursday officers had left the scene of the assault and so far have not made an arrest.
