OPP conducts separate investigation into events leading up to shooting in Innisfil

Share

Provincial police are asking for the public's help as they investigate the events that led up to a police-involved shooting in Innisfil last week.

On Friday, Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reported four South Simcoe police officers discharged their weapons on two 19-year-old men outside of a home on Shoreview Drive between Whitecap Drive and Dalkab Crescent.

The incident left one man hospitalized with serious injuries and the other dead.

The SIU invoked its mandate and is probing what happened and whether the officers were justified in their actions.

South Simcoe police requested the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conduct a separate investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

The OPP urges the public to contact it with any information and video footage, including home surveillance, dash camera, cell phone or anything recorded in the area between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 15, no matter how seemingly insignificant.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
