Ontario invests $40M to help build new homes in Simcoe County
The Ontario government announced a multi-million-dollar investment to help expand water access in two Simcoe County communities, which would enable the construction of thousands of new homes.
Jill Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North, revealed the news on Friday on behalf of Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure, detailing how Midland would receive $30 million as part of the province's Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, while Orillia will receive more than $10.5 million.

"We are grateful to Minister Surma and the Ministry of Infrastructure team and the advocacy of Jill Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North, for her continued support of Midland through this funding, allowing us to upgrade our critical water infrastructure to build over 3,000 new homes in the future," stated Midland Mayor Bill Gordon in an official press release.
"Absolutely critical, the first facility holds about 7,800 meters the new one will hold 11,000, so we need new capacity for the houses we have coming on the stream"" said Orillia Mayor Don McIsaac.
"By investing in drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities and connecting pipes to land, we are helping municipalities build more homes," said Surma in a press release. "Homes can't be built without connections to drinking water and wastewater."
Construction on the reservoir in Orillia is expected to begin in 2025, while Midland will begin upgrades in the next few months.
