Newmarket man charged following alleged convenience store robbery

One Newmarket man was charged following a robbery investigation by the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit.

On Thursday, just before 6 p.m., police were called to a convenience store in the area of Water Street and Main Street South.

A victim contacted police after the 37-year-old suspect entered the store, telling the victim that he was armed.

York Regional Police say the suspect threatened the victim in an attempt to steal some items. Police say no weapons were seen.

Shortly after, the man was arrested by responding officers. Officials say that no one was injured in the alleged robbery.

Police charged the man with robbery and breach of probation.
