New bridge over Highway 400 in Barrie opens to traffic
The Sunnidale Road bridge replacement is complete, with the road opening to traffic Monday.
Work on the new bridge over Highway 400 began in August 2023, forcing Sunnidale Road closed from Shirley Avenue to Wellington Street.
The finished product is a larger bridge to improve traffic flow, plus new sidewalks, water main, sewers, and lighting.

The project was led by the Ministry of Transportation to accommodate future widening of Highway 400 to 10 lanes.
As part of the project, the ministry already replaced the Anne Street bridge, which included significant delays, and plans to tackle the Bayfield Street and Highway 400 interchange will tentatively begin in 2026.
Crews will begin work to replace and widen the Dunlop Street bridge and Highway 400 interchange next year.
That project is expected to take about four years to finish.
