The man accused of murdering his wife in Bradford appeared in court by video on Sunday.
Jose Fernandes, 55, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Saturday in the death of his 49-year-old wife. Fernandes remains in custody and will appear by video in a Barrie court on Wednesday.
"There's nobody that we're looking for,” says South Simcoe Police Det. Const. Kai Johnson. “This is a singular person that has been arrested."
The woman’s body was found by South Simcoe Police officers inside a home on Colborne Street. Neighbours didn’t know the family well, but were shocked to find out about the homicide.
"They kind of kept to themselves and everything, so kind of surprising in this area,” says Glen Fletcher. “Kind of strange it's happening close to home though."
Investigators have not yet revealed the cause of death, or if anyone else was inside the home when the murder occurred. An autopsy was conducted on Sunday.
Officers have been canvassing the neighbourhood – asking residents for any information pertaining to the murder.
This is the first homicide of the year in Bradford. Earlier this month, it was revealed five people were charged with manslaughter after a man died from the injuries he received in a September assault.
Officers are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact police or anonymously Crime Stoppers.
