A major fire destroyed two century homes in downtown Owen Sound Thursday morning.

The fire broke shortly after 8:30 a.m. on 2nd Avenue East.

Mayor Ian Boddy tells CTV News the fire started in one home and then spread to a neighbouring house when flames jumped form one roof to the other.

Boody says nobody was injured in the fires.

“I would like to thank all the agencies, and Emergency Services for their quick response and hard work," says Mayor Ian Boddy in a release. "Your professionalism was very much appreciated by all affected.”

Emergency crews say 2nd Avenue East will be closed from 7th Street to 5th Street for the remainder of the day.
