With just over three weeks until Christmas, the next few days are especially important for local retailers.
Black Friday is such a big deal in the U.S. – most Canadian retailers are making sure they make a big deal out of Black Friday. In fact, some are stretching it into a week-long sale that has many shoppers staying local.
The sales signs are everywhere and stores have been busy all day – one full day ahead of Black Friday. But are there deals?
“One hundred and seventy-five dollars off a laptop here. I’m looking at some of the laptops so it’s good. Good to see the deals out already,” says shopper Laura Tattersall.
Black Friday has been a big deal south of the border for years. So big, many businesses here at home are jumping on board. And some shoppers say they much prefer to stay local.
“A lot of the best deals are right here at home. So, and a lot of good ones too,” says shopper Nancy Moreau.
There were early morning line-ups at The Source in Barrie. Extra staff has been brought in for what is expected to be a busy Black Friday and weekend.
“All four of our Barrie locations have seen a high volume of traffic, even online we’ve seen a significant increase in traffic compared to last year,” said The Source tech expert Melanie Raposo.
Some shoppers say they are spending more than they planned on Black Friday purchases suggesting the sales have been too good to pass up.
“The prices are pretty good! Scouting camera, motion detector, I think for $50. Can’t beat that so I am impressed,” said Rob Price.
And come Monday, many stores will be turning their attention to Cyber Monday. That’s where the deals appear online. It has also become a busy day of shopping for the holiday season.
