More than 100 LCBO employees from across Central Ontario received picket-line training Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in preparation for a possible strike.
It’s a strike union leaders say looks inevitable as both sides are seemingly far apart.
Both sides are still negotiating, but the Ontario Public Service Employees Union plans to set up strike offices across the province over the next couple of days. The main issue: part-time hours.
Restaurants and resorts are also bracing for a strike, buying enough wine and liquor to last well beyond the long weekend.
LCBO agency outlets will still be allowed to sell alcohol if there is a strike.
John Ko operates one at his convenience store in Lefroy, and has just made his largest order ever.
The LCBO says some stores will be opened if there is a strike but at this point will not say where.
There could also be delays for temporary liquor permits for events like weddings, or even fundraisers.
The LCBO is urging shoppers who want to apply for one to do it by Thursday.
