Emotional victim impact statements were read during the sentencing of two men found guilty in the vicious beating of a Barrie man in 2012.
Cousins Courtney and Aaron Lewis were both convicted of aggravated assault in November.
The victim, 31-year-old Ryan Turcotte, suffered catastrophic head injuries and required several brain surgeries following the incident in the Duckworth Plaza in June 2012, after a group of partygoer’s exited bus from the Kee to Bala.
The Crown Attorney read a statement prepared by Turcotte who recalled the attack.
"I remember being hit from every direction - I thought I was dying."
Turcotte also said in his statement that there isn't a minute of the day he feels the impact of the attack.
"You took my future away. I have zero motivation. Why should I bother?"
Also giving a victim statement Thursday was Turcotte's mother Kerry who spoke for almost an hour and was crying the entire time.
"I feel like we have been emotionally and physically tortured - I miss my Ryan," she told the court.
Turcotte's father Richard, also gave a victim impact statement and told the court that incident left him feeling terrified.
"When your son opens his eyes, and doesn't know who you are, you fear he never will," said Richard Turcotte.
Witnesses testified Turcotte and Aaron Lewis had been in a pushing match on the bus. When the bus arrived, Courtney Lewis was waiting in the parking lot. That's when a fight broke out and it was all caught on video.
The facts of the video were contested during the trial. Defence lawyers said it was impossible to make out who was who in the video.
The crown is seeking a six year prison sentence for both men.
Courtney's lawyer is asking for a one year jail sentence with six years probation.
Aaron's lawyer is asking for up to eight months in jail with years probation.
Both men will be back in court for sentencing on May 16.
