Hundreds of students move into Georgian College residences

Around one hundred students moved into Georgian College Orillia Residence on Saturday as the academic semester gets set to begin.

Residence staff say emotions among students ranged from nervousness for those moving away from home for the first time to excitement for those returning to live with their friends.

"People are excited to start that next chapter of their lives," said Eleanor Sidley, general manager of Georgian College's campus living centres.

She adds that planning for move-in day began after move-out day in April, and she hopes students can build a sense of community with their fellow residents.

"Residence plays such a big part in their post-secondary education journey," stated Sidley. "Having that real community feel when they can come home, and they can relax and feel supported really helps them be successful in their academic life as well."

Owen Sound residence also had its move-in day on Saturday. Around 450 to 500 students move into Barrie Residence on Sunday.
